Christopher Bruce’s masterpiece, Ghost Dances, is possibly the most popular work in Rambert’s history.

It tells stories of love and compassion, as death – in the form of the iconic “ghost dancers” – interrupts the daily lives of a series of ordinary people. Created as a response to political oppression in South America, it uses imagery from the Day of the Dead and bewitching traditional music to create a moving, intensely human work.

Also in this programme from Britain’s national dance company is A Linha Curva, Rambert’s colourful, percussion-fuelled party-piece. 28 dancers, four samba drummers and a dazzling light show create a performance of infectious energy.

Completing the triple bill is a new dance theatre creation by rising star Ben Duke, inspired by the music and spirit of Nina Simone, with a selection of her best-loved songs performed live on stage.
