Inspired by the 13th Duke of Bedford’s comic book of the same name, published in 1971, join Simon Pestell, former Butler to The Duke and Duchess and now the Abbey’s Head Housekeeper, to find out ‘How to Run a Stately Home’.
A pioneer of the country house business, the 13th Duke opened the Abbey in 1955. Learn more the trials and tribulations of opening a great house from Simon’s fresh perspective in this entertaining talk. Simon will talk about the how the house was run when it was first opened and how things are done differently today. This is a very visual talk with photographs and video footage that are not usually on display.
There is plenty of time to explore the Abbey and Gardens at your leisure and enjoy a delicious two-course lunch, all included in the price.
