Escape the City to the Chilterns: a Weekend Cycling Adventure. 17th/18th Aug, 14th/15th Sept.
The Experience
Join Red Fox Cycling for 2 days of wonderful guided cycling over the rolling landscapes of the Chiltern Hills. The Red Fox team will meet you at 10am at Tring Station with your bike (or they can hire one for you) and you’ll start the adventure from here. An experienced guide will take you on the most beautiful routes with breath-taking views, through historic villages and tree-lined paths. Plenty of food and drinks stops will be included along the way plus an overnight cosy camp with all the amenities. Expect to cycle around 32 miles per day (around 3-4 hours) plus optional walking of around 2 hours per day.
Day 1
Alongside cycling, the first day will include a wholesome, seasonal lunch at The Grange Restaurant; opened by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. This has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, with all profits supporting the charity.
You’ll have a chance to do some sightseeing with a visit to the quintessentially English village of Aldbury and pretty Ewelme with its duckpond and local village store (also the final resting place of Jerome K Jerome).
Round off the day with a 3 mile 'Three Villages pub walk' taking in the The Frog at Skirmett, The Bull & Butcher in Turville and finishing up at Chequers Inn in Fingest for a hearty supper.
End the day in peace and tranquility with a cosy wild camp under the stars at the Chiltern Retreat (tents, air mats, travel pillows and camping chairs all set up and provided).
Day 2
You’ll start the day breakfasting on delicious Dorset Cereals whilst taking in the idyllic, rural views. The mid-morning pedal will include a tasty snack stop at the No Car Café; a rustic getaway for walkers and cyclists offering locally sourced, real food.
Complete your weekend with a proper Sunday lunch at the traditional country pub, King William IV.
Sightseeing for day 2 will include visiting the Grade II listed ruins of the medieval Church of St James at Bix Brand and an optional leisurely wildlife walk around Warburg Nature Reserve.
