Bucks Open Weekend
This inaugural event takes place 22nd - 25th July and celebrates the culture, creativity and stories of Buckinghamshire with over 70 events! There are walks, art projects the public can participate in, exhibitions, story sessions, concerts, tours and so much more. Take a look at the full programme through our article here.
Immersion Theatre's interpretation of 'Romeo & Juliet' on Aug 14th is showing in Langley Country Park. Bring rugs, chairs, a picnic or purchase refreshments on site and enjoy this Shakespearean favourite.
Waddesdon is hosting an evening of summer jazz. Take a picnic and chair and be entertained by a jazz quartet in the Manor grounds, with a free glass of fizz, Pimms or a soft drink from the terrace bar.
'Paradise & Pandemonium' will be performed on 28th August at The Vache stately home by the Vache Baroque company. Readings from Milton's 'Paradise Lost' and 'Paradise Regained' by acclaimed British actors will be woven into three J.S. Bach cantatas for a unique evening of culture. Handel's pastoral opera, Acis & Galatea, follows in September.
Film on the Farm Nights at Peterley Manor Farm include an outdoor screening of 'Rocketman' (a sing-along version so you can join in with Elton John) and 'Pretty Woman'. There will be firepits, outdoor games, a horsebox selling drinks, food vans and hot drinks and snacks from the yurt cafe. VIP tickets get you a glass of fizz, VIP area and luxury beanbags to sit on. Missenden Abbey is also hosting outdoor cinema in September so keep an eye on their website.
Walks & Tours
The Chilterns Celebration is taking place throughout August and includes tours, walks, and workshops. The website will be updated regularly so keep checking for new events.
Take a tour of the walled garden at Eythrope. This world renowned garden supplies the Rothschild family, Waddesdon's restaurants, hotel and artisan market. The tour includes a light meal with ingredients from the produce and the opportunity to buy their apple juice.
Stowe's Secret Tour is part of the Bucks Open Weekend and allows visitors access to rooms not usually on display, including the Gothic Library designed by Sir John Soane and the beautiful Japan Room. The gardens are stunning and you can walk amongst the Greek-inspired temples, follies and bridges.
The National Garden Scheme Open Day at Danesfield House Hotel & Spa takes place on August 4th and includes one hour tours by the hotel's head gardener and team, with all proceeds going to charity. Discover rare plantings, the Italian Garden and rare 19th Century Pulman monuments. Why not book in for lunch, afternoon tea or dinner too?
If you'd rather be driven than walk, then how about a trip on Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway? Travel by steam or diesel and enjoy a leisurely ride through the beautiful countryside whilst you tuck in to lunch, a cream team or even a quiz night!
Both Chafor Wine Estate and Daws Hill Vineyard offer tours of their estates with tastings. Chafor is open most weekends in the summer with inflatables for little ones, live music and food stalls. Daws Hill offers a whole range of other events, from garden design workshops to cocktail classes.
Head to Bicester Village where you can enjoy a VIP shopping discount of 10% from participating boutiques until the end of August and take full advantage of a less busy day out. There's an amazing array of designer brands, plus some high street names, and a great selection of cafes and restaurants which remain open for dinner. The village is festooned with plants and flowers, outdoor seating and pop-up food stalls which also adds to a thorougly lovely shopping experience.
Thame Town Hall is hosting Sally Evans Events' latest Artists & Makers Fair on July 24th. This is a unique opportunity to chat to the artists themselves, buy bespoke pieces and browse in a relaxed atmosphere.
Waddesdon's Artisan Food Market takes place the second Saturday every month in the grounds and includes produce from the Eythrope garden and local producers. Take home a basket of quality, local, delicious ingredients and foodstuffs, the provenance of which you can be sure of. Also at Waddesdon on Sept 3rd - 5th, enjoy a weekend of all things Chilli with their annual Chilli Fest. Browse the stalls of exhibitiors all passionate about chilli, dance to the live music and soak up the party atmosphere.

'Paint-Sip-Lunch' will be hosted by Pooja Kapoor from The Petals Studio at Hawkyns Restaurant in Amersham. There are 3 dates - 31st Aug, 22nd Aug and 19th Sept - with 3 different floral subjects, and lunch provided by the team at Hawkyns, serving fine Indian cuisine from Michelin starred chef, Atul Kochhar.
