Nowadays, a visit to the supermarket to do the weekly shop or merely pick up a few supplies can take hours, so local shops are finally getting the recognition, and custom, they deserve. Deliveries and takeaways from local producers, restaurants and pubs are also a real godsend. Here are some of our plucky businesses that are keeping us fed and watered: your support will make all the difference.
The Kings Head, Aylesbury has created its own food hall in the courtyard (and online) of this historic pub in the town centre. Essentials such as eggs, bread, milk, fruit and veg are on sale from local producers, in addition to beers (draught and bottled), wines, gin and tonics, soft drinks and fresh orange juice. Seasonal fruit and veg boxes are available for £20 or you can order a ready meal and forget about the cooking. If you can’t or don’t want to come in person (although, of course, strict social distancing will be in place), a delivery service is also on offer.

If you want to hone your culinary skills, why not take advantage of the online cookery classes from our local Michelin starred chefs, Tom Kerridge and Atul Kochhar? Available on IGTV – search for @cheftomkerridge and @chefatulkochhar. It seems that Tom has also been sending food to staff at Wycombe Hospital and Wexham Park, whilst Rumsey’s Chocolate Shop in Wendover has sent chocolates to Stoke Mandeville and John Radcliffe hosptials. Very welcome, I’m sure!
