It is fitting that Buckinghamshire as the host to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic rowing and sprint canoeing competitions offers a stunning variety of active away-days for groups.
The Eton College Rowing Centre at Dorney Lake, our Olympic & Paralympic Venue, has an open access policy allowing your group to explore the 450 acres of parkland surrounding the 2km lake which is often in use by international athletes.
Combine your visit to the lake with a trip to the adjacent Dorney Court and garden centre. Voted as one of the finest Tudor Manor Houses in the Country offers private tours to groups of 20 or more. Allow 1½ hours.
If you really would like to really get into the rowing spirit book your group for a visit to the Longridge Activity Centre by the River Thames in Marlow. Recently voted as one of the best sports tourism facilities in the Country Longridge is an outdoor adventure centre for all ages offering water and land based activities including rowing canoeing and dragon boating for groups and individuals. If your group would prefer to stay on dry land, then the Chiltern Hills offer a fabulous selection of walks and rides. Amongst the most popular locations in the Chilterns is the Wendover Woods, Tel: 01420 520212, with a range of woodland walking and cycling trails, superb woodland café with yummy homemade cakes, pre bookable barbecue sites and for the more adventurous a Go Ape high wire forest adventure. Head north to Milton Keynes for Xscape the first and finest Snowzone in Britain. As well as real snow skiing and snowboarding, the centre has Airkix an incredible indoor skydiving and body-diving facility in addition to rock climbing and ten pin bowling facilities. Tel 0871 200 3220. Allow 3 hours.
Rather than trying to cram all of these activities into a single day, take an overnight stop at the spiritual home of the Paralympics.
