Ian Fleming Centenary

LogoIan Fleming is best known as the creator of Secret Agent 007, James Bond but he also wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and worked extensively as a journalist and played an important role in Naval Intelligence. Fleming's connection to Buckinghamshire goes back to his days as a Lieutenant Commander, when he master minded 'Operation Ruthless', aimed to crack the German Naval Enigma. The Enigma machine can be seen at the National Codes Centre, Bletchley Park near Milton Keynes. In 1968 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was made into a screenplay co-written by the famous local author Roald Dahl and filmed in the Buckinghamshire villages of Hambleden and Turville.

Bletchley Park

Over the years several James Bond movies have been filmed at the historic Pinewood Studios, situated in Iver Heath. These include the much anticipated 2008 release - The Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale, For Your Eyes Only, Live & Let Die and The Spy Who Loved Me.
