Fantastic Family Fun

Searching for a fantastic family day out? Look no further – Buckinghamshire has a host of attractions and free activities to keep children, families and young people entertained all year round.

Days out with children

For a day packed with action & adventure and a lot of adrenalin, head to Go Ape! Black Park, Go Ape! Wendover Woods or Aerial Extreme, where you’ll take to the trees and experience high wires, tricky crossings and wind-in-your-face zip wires!

Why not capture your children’s imaginations at the Roald Dahl Museum, Great Missenden and the Bucks County Museum & Roald Dahl’s Children Gallery in Aylesbury. Both Dahl museums will transport them into the wonderful, quirky world of the World famous author, whilst the County Museum will open their eyes to the world of history and heritage.

Be giants for the day and visit the magical miniature wonderland of Bekonscot Model Village and Railway or go full steam ahead to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre to experience the golden age of steam or visit Thomas!

Educational days out with children

For a fun educational day out for the family experience history hands-on at the Chilterns Open Air Museum or Wycombe Museum; try to navigate your way out of the Lacey Green Maize Maze; explore the inspiring Waddesdon Manor; visit the world’s largest wildlife hospital, Tiggywinkles; or embrace military history at the Buckingham Old Gaol Museum.

Outdoor activities for all the family

Get out in the fresh air and enjoy any number of fun outdoor activities in Buckinghamshire. Explore the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Wendover Woods with a huge choice of walks, rides and cycleways or visit one of the numerous Country Parks dotted across the county. Spend a day by, or even on, the River Thames and then take a visit to the River & Rowing Museum to explore the magical story of The Wind in the Willows. A day out at the stunning Stowe Landscape Gardens will delight; don’t forget to bring your kite on breezy days!

Free days out for families

There’s plenty for families to do in Buckinghamshire for free, whatever the weather! Animal lovers will enjoy a day out at The Horse Trust, where over 100 retired horses are cared for, or head out to Wendover Woods, or any of the numerous Country Parks, to spot the wildlife of Buckinghamshire and on warm days enjoy a picnic or BBQ at the Woods. For free entertainment head to Aylesbury town centre, which hosts over 100 free events every year including free music every weekend in the Summer and free children’s entertainment every Thursday of the school holidays. And don’t forget that a number of the museums in Buckinghamshire are free including the Bucks County Museum and Wycombe Museum.

Days out for young people

Whether you’re a young person looking for something to do with your family or with a group of friends, you’ll find lots to do in Bucks. Try something daring in the adrenalin forest adventures of Go Ape! Black Park, Go Ape! Wendover Woods or Aerial Extreme, whilst the Xscape Entertainment Complex in Milton Keynes offers extreme fun including indoor snowboarding, rock climbing and indoor sky diving. There’s boarding of a different kind available at Vale Park Skate Park in Aylesbury or take a trip to the Aston Hill Bike Park in Wendover Woods which features lots of runs. If you’re more into watching than doing sport why not head to Adams Park to see Wycombe Wanderers play football or support London Wasps rugby team.

If shopping is more your bag pop to the shopping centres in High Wycombe or Aylesbury for all the High Street brands or if you just want to chill out with friends take the bus or train to Wendover or Amersham and visit one of their many coffee shops.
