Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre
Museum
This great little award-winning Museum, aimed at 6 to 12 year olds and their families, has 3 fun and fact-packed galleries full of hands-on displays and activities. Delve into Roald Dahl's archive on touch-screen monitors, sit in his Writing Chair, make up your own Gobblefunk words and create your own stop-frame animated story.
There are always free craft activities on offer, and an exciting range of workshops, events, and free storytelling sessions are run in the school holidays and at weekends.
On-site, Café Twit serves a family-friendly range of home made food, whilst the shop is a treasure trove of books, toys, and gifts.
Little known facts:
1. The old petrol pumps opposite the Museum were the inspiration for Danny's Dad's garage in 'Danny the Champion of the World'. Find them and other places mentioned in the stories on the Museum's Village Trail.
2. The Museum's Wonka gates were donated by Warner Brothers. The original gates from the film set were too large, so they made us our very own scaled-down set!
3. The Museum is home to some perculiar items, including Roald Dahl's hip-bone and shavings from his spine, his RAF flying helmet and his odd Norwegian sandal, used by Quentin Blake as the model for the BFG's footwear.
